About Cayman Islands

Whether you’re relocating to Grand Cayman or would like to learn more about Cayman Islands real estate, Corcoran Cayman can help. Here’s a brief look at the beautiful Cayman Islands, the place we call home.

The Cayman Islands are located approximately an one hour flight, or 480 miles south of Miami, Florida. Three islands make up the Cayman Islands: Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac, and Little Cayman.

Grand Cayman is known for the world-famous Seven Mile Beach and some of the best diving locations in the world. No matter where you are on the island, you are only minutes away from the nearest beach. Conduct business in the city’s capital George Town and escape to the quiet seclusion of Rum Point, all within 30 miles of each other. Our population is approximately 60,000 people from over 150 countries.

Cayman Brac is very popular amongst nature lovers. With its vast assortment of caves to explore, it is sure to be a nature lover’s delight.

Little Cayman, the smallest of the three islands, is the ultimate place for relaxation and world class scuba diving. Kick your feet up and enjoy the stunning sunsets over the crystal blue waters.

Economy

Cayman’s economy remains a strong and stable contender on the international stage. The local currency is the Cayman Islands Dollar (KYD) with $1 KYD being approximately equal to $1.20 USD or £0.98 GBP. As a British Overseas Territory, the county’s legal framework is rooted in UK Common Law with most of their legislation and road laws aligning with UK requirements.

Unlike most other countries, additional taxes are not added on transactions taking place in the Cayman Islands, making it a tax neutral jurisdiction. While achieving its commercial success, the Cayman Islands has maintained a high level of integrity. It combats tax evasion with legislation, regulation, and automatic tax information sharing arrangements that uphold the highest international standards for transparency and cross-border cooperation.

Lifestyle

Modern yet relaxed, the Cayman Islands offers residents the perfect balance of serenity and luxury. Cayman has one of the highest standards of living in the world due to its low crime rate, modern infrastructure and natural beauty.

From watersports and nature trails, to brunch and sunrise yoga- there’s something to keep you busy every day of the week. With the largest island being only 22 miles long, the close proximity of facilities is another added convenience when planning your activities.

Known for being #CaymanKind, there’s no wonder nationals from over 110 countries have decided to call Cayman home. This makes the islands a very culturally  diverse community for its size!

Culture

The culture of the Cayman Islands is a fusion of Afro-Caribbean and European traditions, with influences from North and Latin America. This is evident in the local cuisine and music enjoyed across the islands. In addition to local delicacies, Cayman has over 150 restaurants featuring international cuisine crafted by world known chefs.

We are a faith based community with many active places of worship within the community. This influences some of the island’s regulations, such as most local establishments remaining closed on Sundays and on religious holidays like Christmas.

During carnival season (which runs from May to July and again in early November) residents from all walks of life can be found celebrating in the city centre, dawning elaborate and showstopping costumes while dancing the day away to soca music. If planning on relocating to the Cayman Islands this is a traditional celebration that’s not to be missed.
